Adobe's New AI Video Generation Tool
Feb 28, 2025AI Video Creation is Exploding. Did Adobe Just Show Up Too Late?
For years, Adobe has dominated the creative industry. Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects—they’ve set the gold standard for digital creators. But now, AI is moving fast. Every time I log into Instagram, I see two or three ads for a brand-new AI video tool I’ve never even heard of.
And now, Adobe has finally decided to step into the game with Firefly, their AI-powered video generation tool. The problem? They’re stepping in late. Like Internet Explorer late.
So in this breakdown, I’ll cover exactly what Adobe Firefly does, where it falls short, and which AI tools might actually be better options for your workflow.
Adobe Firefly: What It Does (and What It Doesn’t)
The UI is clean, I’ll give them that. Firefly is laid out in a way that makes sense—intuitive, simple, and accessible. If you’re already in the Adobe ecosystem, it integrates nicely with Creative Cloud.
But here’s where things get messy.
Adobe claims that Firefly’s AI is trained only on licensed content—basically, whatever they have the rights to in their public domain. This is great from an ethical standpoint. It means you’re not dealing with the legal gray area of AI models trained on copyrighted content.
The downside?
This makes Firefly’s generations feel weird. The results tend to lean toward generic, safe, and sometimes downright AI slop. Adobe even admits that Firefly is great for landscapes and animals but struggles with faces—which is a massive drawback if you’re trying to generate realistic AI video content.
But if you’re serious about high-quality AI video creation, there are better options available right now.
Here are three tools that are already ahead of Firefly:
- Runway ML – One of the best AI video generators out there.
- Pika Labs – My personal favorite and the one I use for most of my creative projects
- Kling AI - has generated a lot of buzz recently and probably the most cost efficient.
There's a ton more to mention but I would say learning one as your main one to use while experimenting with others is the best way to find out the pros and cons for each tool.
The Bigger Picture: AI is Changing Video Creation
Regardless of which tool you use, one thing is clear:
We’re entering a new era of video creation.
For decades, producing high-quality videos required expensive cameras, huge crews, and years of technical experience. Now, AI is breaking down those barriers.
In the next five years, we’ll see:
- A single creator generating entire cinematic sequences with just a few clicks.
- AI tools that animate characters, create scenes, and edit videos faster than ever before.
- The rise of AI-powered filmmaking, where storytelling isn’t limited by budget or equipment.
Right now, we’re still in the early stages. AI-generated videos aren’t perfect yet—but imagine where we’ll be in just a few years. The tools we’re experimenting with today could be the foundation of the next generation of filmmakers and content creators.
So whether you’re using Firefly, Pika, Runway, or any other AI tool, the real question isn’t whether AI will change the way we create—
It’s who’s going to take advantage of it first?
